Inside TALLY

Everything it does.

A tour of TALLY's own firmware, running live on this page. Scroll, and TALLY shows you each part for itself: the start-up show, the menu, the settings, how it rests and how it sleeps.

01 · START-UP

It wakes up with a show.

Every time it powers on, TALLY plays a short opening, checks itself, then says hello.

  1. A spark, then eyesA line opens into a pair of eyes.
  2. Its nameTALLY scrambles into place, with the credits underneath.
  3. A self-checkA terminal runs down the screen, display, touch, sound, motion and clock.
  4. HelloAn introduction, then one tap to go.
  5. The menuAnd you're in.
03 · PAGES

Swipe through your numbers.

Five pages, with dots along the bottom so you always know where you are. It doesn't wrap around, so the ends stay put.

  1. HomeYour five-hour session, big, with the time to reset.
  2. LimitsThe session and the week side by side.
  3. DetailTap a limit for its own page.
  4. Switch providerSwipe up or down to flip between Claude and OpenAI.
04 · SETTINGS

Settings you can drag.

One setting per card. Flick up or down, tap to open, and the editor slides in from the right with controls big enough for a thumb. Top left always takes you home.

  1. One card at a timeConnection, brightness, sound, alarm, night, sleep, screen, clap, eye breaks.
  2. BrightnessA full-width bar. Drag it and the screen follows.
  3. Night modePick the hours TALLY sleeps on its own.
  4. Sleep afterNever, or 1, 2, 5, 10 or 30 minutes.
  5. Wake on clapOn or off, with Low, Medium or High sensitivity.
05 · EYES

The eyes keep an eye on things.

Every couple of minutes the numbers step aside for a calm, twenty-second eye break, then come back. The mood follows your usage the rest of the time.

  1. Eye breaksTwenty quiet seconds of eyes, a glance around, then back to the figures.
  2. Getting closePast 75% it starts to worry; past 90% it panics a little.
  3. OutAt 100% it shows you when the window comes back.
  4. Tap the eyesIt reacts. Sometimes it's pleased with itself.
06 · STANDBY AND SLEEP

It dozes. Then it sleeps.

Leave it alone and it dims to a resting face you can still see across the room. After a long while, or at night, it falls properly asleep.

  1. StandbyA yawn, then resting eyes, dimmed but easy to see.
  2. SleepAfter thirty minutes in standby, or during night hours: eyes closed and a drifting zzz.
  3. Clap to wakeA clap, a tap or the power button brings it back, a little startled.
  4. With your MacIt dozes when your Mac sleeps and wakes when it wakes.
07 · SENSES

Tilt it. Clap. Give it a shake.

TALLY has a motion sensor and a microphone of its own. It doesn't record anything; it only listens for the shape of a clap.

  1. TiltThe eyes look the way you tip it.
  2. ClapSurprised, then glad to see you.
  3. ShakeDizzy, for a moment.
  4. Face downLay it on its face and it goes to sleep.
08 · BATTERY

Knows its own charge.

With the battery add-on, TALLY shows its level, voltage and time left in Settings, and its mood changes with the charge.

  1. Battery pageCharge, voltage and time remaining.
  2. ChargingA little bolt, and joy when you plug it in.
  3. Running lowUnder 20% it gets tired; nearly empty, sleepy.
09 · MAKE IT YOURS
